Frequently asked questions
Message us on WhatsApp or write to info
Do I need to fast for my tests?
Only for some: glucose and the glucose tolerance test need 8 to 12 hours of fasting, and the lipid panel 10 to 12 hours. Others, like the CBC and hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c), don't. You can drink water while fasting. If you use insulin or diabetes pills, ask your doctor how to take them that day. Children and babies fast for a shorter time depending on their age: ask us when you book.
How does the gestational diabetes screening (O’Sullivan test) work?
It is done between weeks 24 and 28 of pregnancy. No fasting is needed: you drink a 50 g glucose drink and we draw blood one hour later. Stay seated and don't eat while you wait. If it comes out high, your doctor will order the glucose tolerance test.
Do you do anatomic pathology?
Yes. We analyze biopsies, cytology samples and tissue from procedures, and the result goes into your medical record for your doctor.
Is the HIV test confidential?
Yes. HIV and other sexually transmitted infection tests are handled confidentially, and the result is given only to you.
What are the lab's hours?
We're open during Urgent Care hours: Monday to Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Saturdays, Sundays and holidays from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Do you collect samples at home?
Yes, in Tegucigalpa and Comayagüela, by appointment: book it with our call center on WhatsApp (in Spanish).
How do I get past results or a copy of my medical record?
Request them on WhatsApp at +504 9490-7396 (in Spanish). We verify your identity and send them to you.
Do I need a doctor's order?
Not for most tests. If you have insurance, your insurer usually needs a doctor's order to cover the test.
Do you accept orders from doctors outside GyV Medical?
Yes. We accept orders from any doctor, including when you use your insurance: bring your order, your insurance card and your ID. If pre-authorization is required, request it from your insurer before you come: we give you the order and any details they ask for.
How do I get my results?
By email or printed at reception. They also go into your medical record so your GyV Medical doctor can see them.
When will my results be ready?
Routine tests (CBC, urinalysis, glucose, lipid panel) are ready the same day. Specialized tests take longer: we'll tell you the exact time when we give you the quote.
